Overview of Our £1,460 Tesco Stronger Starts Grant
We were incredibly proud to be a recipient of a £1,460 grant from the Tesco Stronger Starts program. This funding was the direct result of the incredible support from our local community, who voted for our project with their blue tokens in Tesco stores. The grant, which we received for coming in first place in our voting round, has been instrumental in allowing us to expand our services and provide much-needed support to families facing financial hardship.
The Tesco Stronger Starts program is designed to help local organizations, and while its primary focus is often on supporting children’s food and activities, we demonstrated that the health of pets is directly linked to the well-being of the entire family, particularly children.
How We Used the Grant: Supporting Our Community
We strategically allocated the grant across two key areas to maximize its impact:
1. The Care Bank: Pet Food and Supplies
The majority of the funding was used to significantly bolster our Care Bank, an initiative that provides essential supplies to pet owners who are struggling with the rising cost of living. We purchased a large bulk order of:
Dog food: Both dry kibble and wet food to ensure a balanced diet.
Cat food: A variety of brands and types to cater to different feline needs.
Pet accessories: Including new collars, leads, and toys, which are often a forgotten expense for families in crisis.
By providing these items, we are helping to prevent the heartbreaking situation of families having to surrender their beloved pets due to financial strain. Keeping a family together, including its furry members, is vital for the emotional health and stability of the household, especially for children who often form deep bonds with their pets.
2. Community Engagement and Celebration
A portion of the grant was also used to fund a community event as a way of thanking our supporters and bringing everyone together. We organized a memorable celebration that included:
A barbecue and pizza oven: We provided a delicious meal for all attendees, creating a relaxed and festive atmosphere where neighbors could connect and share a positive experience.
Entertainment: The event featured entertainment for all ages, which helped to create a joyful and welcoming environment for everyone in our community, including the children and young people the Stronger Starts program is designed to benefit.
This event was a perfect way to celebrate our shared success and showcase the tangible results of the community’s support. The grant not only helped us fund critical supplies but also enabled us to create a positive and memorable experience that strengthened the bonds within our community. We are deeply grateful to Tesco and every shopper who contributed to our success.
